The Bird Hat

I recieved the following invitation

“Dear Friends!Although its nearly one year since my bird-hat purchase, I have yet not taken it for a stroll. A bird-hat like the one I have (a large feather creation, containing a bird landing on my head), requires a specific atmosphere – one that could be attained with the right people, the right place and the right outfits. For months, we have been talking about dressing up, with bow ties and hats (Mikkel was speaking of wearing a cape.. possibly made out of feathers?) and go for dinner and drinks somewhere fancy. As my good friends from Oslo, Joakim and Morten, are coming to London next weekend, and I know their special interest in anything extravagant, it would a great opportunity to do something special for the saturday evening.

Our suggestion would be to start with drinks at the bar at St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, a fusion of a classical English gentlemen’s club, Cinderella’s fairytale castle and Versailles. Built in 1873, the hotel was to be demolished in the 60s to be rebuilt in a more modern fashion. After several years in decay, it was reopened in 2011.

From the hotel bar, we could head south to Sketch. http://sketch.uk.com/what.php Its location at 9 Conduit street was where the RIBA (Royal Intsitute of British Architects – where I currently work as a building tour guide) had their headquarters until 1934. This was where the architects of Britain came to smoke their cigars, drink their Whiskey and study the extensive collection of architectural drawings, books and items (including a collection of medals and a piece of Architect Christopher Wren’s coffin!) Now it is a bar/restaurant consisting of multiple rooms, all with a different theme, atmosphere and feel. (have a look at the website). Most impressive are the bathrooms, where each bathroom stall is a large, white egg.

If you think the menu looks good, I can book us a table for dinner.
What time would be good?

All the best,
Ulrikke”

And this is what happened
